Arthritis is basically the tenderness or the swelling of one or more joints. The main symptoms of this are joint pain, stiffness in the body, redness over the affected part. This may get worsen with age and body type (obesity). The most common types of arthritis are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Osteoarthritis involves wear and tear damage of the cartilage whereas in rheumatoid arthritis the body immune system attacks the lining of the joints.
Sometimes the person may unknowingly have those foods which aggravates the pain and causes discomfort to the body. Let’s talk about some of these
- Wheat products

- Sugary drinks
- Red meat
- Salt
- Alcohol
Foods which are made from refined flour like pasta, breads, crackers trouble your joints as they contain gluten which is a protein that can irritate and aggravate your pain. Try to avoid food products which has more gluten content, instead of that you can have buckwheat, amaranth, millets quinoa, brown rice.
These products are highly processed with AGE which is chemical used to produce these types of spreads. As they are processed on high temperature, can cause stiffness in the body and increases inflammation. Try to avoid foods which are rich in high fat. Instead try hummus, homemade dips or chutneys.
Foods which contains high amount of fats and oils irritates the swelling of your joints. Foods which are high in fat like pastries, cakes, fried foods, burgers and so on should be strictly avoided.
When it comes to joint pains, it is always advised by the doctor to limit your sugar intake. Drinks which are high in sugar like cold drinks, mock tail, and squashes should be avoided as they contain more fructose content which causes discomfort. You should choose healthier options such as coconut water, lassi, chaach, fresh fruits instead of fruit juice.
Red meats are the main source of saturated fat which causes inflammation in the fat cells. Red meats like ham, pork etc should be strictly avoided. You can choose lean meat over red meat like chicken, salmon, tuna.
Too much salt just not bad for your blood pressure, it is also bad for your arthritis as your body may not hold it. Try to have less salt in your daily food items. Avoid table salt on your salad.
Alcohol does not go well with arthritis meds. As they are NSAID and can cause stomach bleeding and ulcers. Best advice on this is just forgotten that alcohol exists in the world.
